The Educational Resource Center (ERC) is a K-12 curriculum library that provides resources and services to support professional education programs at Bridgewater State University. The collection emphasis is on practical materials that can be used for curriculum planning, preparation and teaching of lessons, and assessment of pupils. Tools for conducting educational research are also located here. 

All ERC collections are accessible at any time the library is open, except the standardized test collection, which is only available when an ERC staff member is present. Students who need to view the tests should contact the ERC beforehand to ensure that someone will be available to assist them.

• What We Have

  Books

  Our general collection includes professional books for educators, a reference collection with materials such as handbooks and encyclopedias that are for in-library use, and a children’s literature collection featuring big books (large format) and juvenile fiction and non-fiction to support literacy development.

  Curriculum and Teaching Resources

  The ERC provides a range of resources to support curriculum planning and classroom instruction, including curriculum guides from several U.S. states, materials aligned with the Massachusetts Frameworks and Common Core, and test preparation materials for the MTEL and other entrance exams. The media collection also includes videos, DVDs, CDs, audiocassettes, and additional non-print instructional formats.

  Materials for Instruction

  The ERC offers instructional aid kits containing board games, manipulatives, flash cards, and other hands-on teaching tools. Additionally, the collection includes K–12 textbooks covering all major academic subjects, including English, reading, mathematics, science, and social studies.

• MaxGuides (Subject Resource Guides)

  MaxGuides are research support pages designed to help you find high-quality academic resources in education. They offer step-by-step guidance on using library databases, exploring online tools, and locating materials for assignments or professional preparation. The primary guide for the ERC is the Education (K-12 & Higher Ed) guide.

  In addition to the main ERC guide, there are specialized MaxGuides that support specific education disciplines and instructional needs:

• Standardized Test Collection

  The ERC has a collection of approximately 850 tests. All are indexed in the library’s online catalog, which may be searched for individual titles or for broad subject areas, such as achievement tests, personality tests, and so forth. The print collection of the Educational Resource Center includes numerous reference sources relevant to testing, including: Mental Measurements Yearbook; Tests in Print; Test Critiques; Guide to 100 Tests for Special Education; Consumer’s Guide to Tests in Print; and Directory of Unpublished Experimental Mental Measures.

  Maxwell Library also subscribes to an online version of Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in PrintLink opens in new window and has two computer workstations with test scoring software loaded on them. Please Note: ERC staff can provide only limited assistance with the scoring software. You will need to address most questions to your professors.
